Mixing Up Annie Sloan Paints ready ,set, go, paint!

.
This blog is  a follow up on the progress of my customized blend of Annie Sloan Paints of February 4th.  The blend was  for a client wanting her cabinet painted so that it would match her antique piano...

After about 10 samples of  mixtures we hit it just right.

The piece has some nice details but it just didn't fit in her music room...It was purchased in JC Pennys years ago, and has a lot of family history traveling with them from house to house.... Now the piece is located in a large open living area...in full view from the living room, dinning room and kitchen...not to mention the loft above.

First coat
two coats and some waxing

I still have some tweaking to do but I was very happy with the coloring....I will add a bit of gilding wax to the shells on the ...and need to work on the waxing a bit more. I will be completing the project next week when I return...  I will keep you posted..

Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint on Walls

2nd grade reading material a must for the summer
We are in the process of rehabbing a sixty year old home on the coast of New Jersey.  The upstairs is what you may refer to as the flop floor or dorm area, the kids rooms....there are four single beds in a space without doors and a queen bed in a secured room .....  We finally got around to putting some fresh paint on the walls....As you can see there are some corky angles to deal with.

Meet Mia the inspiring artist prior to painting.
As my husband was painting ( I'm only allowed to paint furniture)  I came up with putting a accent color on some of the angled walls - I decided to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - Versailles which is a beautiful shade of green with a tint of grey. The following pictures are of my grand daughters side..

A comfy spot to just relax

Nestled Down filled pillows

A retired sail boat flag that was given to my grand daughter because she like it and it was PINK

A left over summer braided bracelet which was the summer of 2012's  project
A great little place for Mia to keep her momentous

Its fun to experiment with different mediums...Annie's paint is not only for furniture...it can be used on all sorts of material, wood, metal, concrete, glass, plastic...I just love using her paints....they are well worth the investment.

Customizing Color using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

I had posted this blog back in February 2013, and someone just recently asked about the after picture which I never posted - Here it is....The client was thrilled, and it did match her baby grand piano!

Shore Chicy Designs was recently commissioned to paint this Armoire so that it blended more with the decor in my clients new home.  She wanted it in a brownish color...hmmmm, not a fan but okay we will come up with something.    When ever you are customizing paints it is important that accurate measurements are taken.  In this case since I am making samples I simply used kitchen measuring spoons.  It is also wise to write down the quantities and color as you start the customization process.
My formula was 1/4 teaspoon of Annie Sloan's Emperors Silk followed by 2.5 teaspoons of Annie Sloan's Olive and 1 Tablespoon of Graphite

The samples that I produced were the use of my formula plus a clear wax, my formula with gold gilding wax added and clear wax, my formula plus a red wash and dark wax, a graphite base with my formula as a wash with a dark wax, and finally my formula with a dark wax.
I painted a sample of the paint in my Annie Sloan Work Book which I just purchased at one of my favorite local stockists Magnolia Lane Designs in Point Pleasant NJ  but you can find a stockists near you or order the paint on line at Annie Sloan.
I want to give a shout out to my friends at Walkers Trading Company for the design referral !

Annie Sloan paints are really so much fun to work with and so forgiving.....so stay tuned to the customized armoire as we go through the various steps.
