Dining Table Transformed

I had the great pleasure of meeting a group of fabulous woman from Ortley Beach New Jersey this past summer.  They have spent the last two years getting their beloved summer residence back in order after super storm sandy.  Now they are concentrating their efforts into the primary residences in Livingston New Jersey.

I was asked  to try to create a new look to the dining room table and chairs..  We decided on painting the chairs an old white to match a piece already in the dinning room and stripping down the table of an aged golden yellow color into a lighter brighter look.

We debated over painting the table the same or having a bit of a contrast.  We decided on the contrast leaving it a natural color.

The first choice of color for the chair was Annie Sloan's Versailles which we decided against displayed above.

We totally sanded the down to the bare wood taking away any old chippy varnishes and imperfections

Here is the finished product....a totally different look.  The dinning room walls will be painted another color during the winter months.   This set now looks refreshed!

The Ladies from Ortley Beach NJ

I have had the opportunity to meet some of the nicest woman from the Ortley Beach section of Toms River Township.   They were referred to me by Flowers by Melinda located in Lavallette New Jersey.  I just made another connection through this group of devoted educators.  

What a great meeting...we discussed colors and looked at swatches on a front porch in Ortley Beach....love my business atmosphere...no business suits or heels..  This client inherited a beautiful chair from her mother in law which she wanted updated for her home....

There was another cushion on it which I didn't take with me

We decided on Annie Sloan's Old Violet

took hundreds of tacks out of the side boards so that we could add a bit more painted area

Next step is to wax and distress a bit..

This summer has been crazy busy...with selling our home and moving into a rental until November....but its all working out....I also started a great health transformation I am now following a wonderful IsAgenix program...lost 11 pounds since June 23rd....and 20 inches....I can tell you more about that if you are interested.

In the mean time I continue to keep furniture out of the land fills.... I'll keep you posted....

Updating and outdated headboard in a day.

Good Morning...its been a while.....since I've posted anything....all is good in case you missed me....or not!  Here is an update.... We moved in to temporary housing until November.....My husband set up my new workshop and put my paints in  Alphabetical order...I don't work that way....but Thank You ,,,,  I lost 7.8 pounds on a new program that I am following called IsAgenix and I'm back to the gym and yoga full time...  Ahhhh but you wanted to see the head board... I have to do this fast as I'm delivering it at 8:30 and its 7:36...here goes

I painted the first coat in Annie Sloan Versailles .  Then added tape strips
 

I took every other strip of tape off and made sure the remaining were nice an smoothly attached.

I added Annie Sloan Old White to the area's where I removed the tape

Removed the tape and you have perfect stripes

Added wax and a white wash...a bit of sanding and here is the beach look we were going for.

Love it!  Okay now to deliver it..

Oh did I mention that this piece is going to the Sandy devastated area of Ortley Beach NJ....I love helping the folks at the beach still trying to put their lives back together....

Wow do we have a lot going on right now.....We are in contract for the sale of our home for which I have worked out of for the last two years..... you might not recognize this room where I worked out of  minus loads of furniture and paint on the wooden floor.  We spruced it up a bit for the sale...

I was able to rent a studio space in Island Heights which has been wonderful... It is jammed packed right now with projects.

Happy with life?

After a bitter battle of being let go from my former career that ended September of 2011....I finally can tell you that I am the happiest that I have ever been.....with a fraction of the income....I love what I do and I love each and every client that I have come in contact with. My clients are who are making me feel so fulfilled in my life and allowing me to do what I love to do!

I love the research and development with out any reporting

Fun times on the beaches of Liberia with coworkers

I know longer experience countries with no electricity and running water....following balance sheets and budget lines....sleeping with mosquito nets and taking malaria tables  Today...
....I usually have paint from my head to my does....I schedule the amount of work I can handle and find joy in each and every project that I do....I have a great group of people that follow me on face book and encourage my creativity.... I have a wonderful support group with my family and friends..... So am I now happy with my new life and career....YES!!!

Rehabbing a mid century water falls server

There are so many of us that have pieces that were handed down to us in our basement....and are not being used...because they are chipped, the veneer is lifting...or it just doesn't go with your new decor.

I have an amazing client that has an eye for what it can become with a little help from your's truly!  So here is the piece.

I always start out with a drawing so I have an idea where I am going ...

Here you can see the top of the piece with just one layer of paint ..if you look carefully 

the veneer is splitting....I couldn't leave it this way...

I added this product that I purchased at Magnolia Lane Designs in Point Pleasnat NJ called Wood Icing....which can also be used for decorative purposes... but for this it solved the problem...

I removed some of the paint along the doors and drawers

The holes on the doors were filled in to create a new more modern look with the new handles.
