Often times when I am commissioned to work on a piece....the client is not sure what exactly they want done. I like to give as many examples and/or suggestions to help in the process of picking a color or technique. There are a lot of variables that come into play.

Dinning area where the new piece will be residing. We must be careful that it is complementary |
|
we need to be mindful of the contains of the hutch ~this is the clients china~ |
|
I always provide some similar pieces that have been painted |

another similar piece painted |

A prospective color combination based on the room and china and style of cabinet |
|
The client provides their idea of what they want the piece to look like from a search of vintage hutches |
When there are some difference in color and style, I like to do some renderings of prospective color combinations for the piece.
I would love to hear your feed back on what color would you paint this piece??
Are you kidding? Why destroy this piece with a crappy paint job that will be out of style in two years? It is too bad no one sees it for its intrinsic value.
ReplyDeleteDo not paint this gorgeous piece. Buy a different table if you want everything to match. Or sell this piece to someone who will value it's beauty as it was meant to be. Painting it will greatly diminish it's value as well.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with above posters. Please stop painting these wonderful pieces of timeless beauty. Painting them turns them into just another piece of forgettable flavor of the month junk.
ReplyDeleteOh my gawd I looked at the original piece and almost had a heart attack. For the love of good taste and all that's holy, DO NOT PAINT THIS GORGEOUS PIECE!!!
ReplyDeletePLEASE - Do NOT paint it!!!! There is so little Mid-century furniture left that is being destroyed every day by good and bad paint jobs. It is gorgeous as is and on my long time wish list!
ReplyDeleteAppreciate all of your comments however this is not my piece and my decision. I have been hired by the owner to paint. It is veneer with missing pieces of veneer on the bottom half.. I am not sure if this is an original mid century piece ....many of those were indeed teak and this is not teak.
ReplyDeleteI think that you need to determine first where does it fit within the space you are putting together. Do you want it to be a focal point or do you want it to contrast with its background. Is the overall feeling of the room modern or is it more calm and subdued. Based on the feeling you want to accomplish then that can start with it either being bright or dull colours. Then if it is a focal point then be unique and find how it fits with the fabric colours and the floor and be discerning. Bur if it is part of a larger whole then you can be more subtle..
ReplyDeleteComing to you from Stockholm: Don't paint it!!!!
