Rehabbing a mid century water falls server

There are so many of us that have pieces that were handed down to us in our basement....and are not being used...because they are chipped, the veneer is lifting...or it just doesn't go with your new decor.

I have an amazing client that has an eye for what it can become with a little help from your's truly!  So here is the piece.
As you can see at the bottom and the door there is chipping

These two pictures are our kick off inspiration pieces

I always start out with a drawing so I have an idea where I am going ...
Here you can see the top of the piece with just one layer of paint ..if you look carefully
the veneer is splitting....I couldn't leave it this way...

I added this product that I purchased at Magnolia Lane Designs in Point Pleasnat NJ called Wood Icing....which can also be used for decorative purposes... but for this it solved the problem...

These are the hardware that we choose to complete the piece from Pottery Barn

I removed some of the paint along the doors and drawers

The holes on the doors were filled in to create a new more modern look with the new handles.

I hope you enjoyed this transformation of a piece that was tucked away to now sits proudly and used...  Give me a call if you are interested in transforming one of your pieces...917-699-1262

Painted furniture everywhere!!!!

I had to go into NYC yesterday for my routine dental visit....(I can't give up my NY doctors)...anyway we were a bit early...so we went into  Roche Bobbois of Paris on 200 Madison Ave.
Sleek Modern Furniture

And then.....we started to walk around.....ahhhhh...check this piece out in purple.......they have painted furniture!!
This piece was throughout the show room in various colors

here as a television table with Christian Louboutin's signature red soles
Remember this project that we did for a client?

Here it is in the show room trimmed in black and gold

they also carried the shabby chic look...for a huge price tag$1,000.00 +++
It is amazing that that the furniture that we love is now in transition  popping up in various styles in the high end retailers around the world.....

What Color Did We Paint the Piece???

Well, this was one of the most talked about pieces .... It was fun to read and hear the passion and convictions towards a piece of furniture.   We completed the project and it is in my client's beautiful pristine home.  To answer some of your queries...No, it is not teak, no it is not an original mid-century modern piece.

This was the original piece as purchased by my client
I had several elements and colors to deal with.....and was constantly drawing samples to come up with the right combination.
This was the work in progress
This is the room before

This is the room after

I used Annie Sloan Old White and Graphite Chalk Paint

We would love to hear what you think!!!  We know you are not shy.....

What color should we paint this piece????

Often times when I am  commissioned to work on a piece....the client is not sure what exactly they want done.  I like to give as many examples and/or suggestions to help in the process of picking a color or technique. There are a lot of variables that come into play.

Up coming project ~clients purchased the Mid Century Danish Modern Piece for the seller of their new home~

Dinning area where the new piece will be residing. We must be careful that it is complementary

we need to be mindful of the contains of the hutch ~this is the clients china~

I always provide some similar pieces that have been painted

another similar piece painted
A prospective color combination based on the room and china and style of cabinet
The client provides their idea of what they want the piece to look like from a search of vintage hutches

When there are some difference in color and style, I like to do some renderings of prospective color combinations for the piece.

I would love to hear your feed back on what color would you paint this piece??

Shore Chicy Designs In A Store Front ??

Over the past year, I have developed a relationship with one of the greatest thrift shops in Ocean County.  "Silk Purse Consignments" located in Toms River New Jersey in the K Mart shopping Plaza on route 37 East.  The shop owner Pam asked if I would like to place a few of my pieces in the front window.....I was so excited....Please stop by the shop and check out the merchandise....You will love it!!

Working on staging the window

a desk that Pam had that Shore Chicy shabbied up a bit....it would look great in a entrance foyer

A few of my pieces...the dresser is by Berkey Gay Furniture from the 1920's complete with the brass label

Indoor/out door shot

The color is great for any decor
